Sunny Angulo (5'3")

Chief of Staff

Office of The District 3 San Francisco Supervisor

"The voters pay tax dollars toward affordable housing development, it's time that private developers pay their fair share to help keep working families, teachers, nurses, hotel and restaurant workers and bus drivers in the city that they essentially help hold together and keep running! Now we just have to vote YES on C!"

Between 5/20 (Friday) and 5/26 (Thursday),

Exactly as her name stands for, Sunny is that kind of person who gives you an always-sunny spirit. She is the Chief of Staff for the Office of the District 3 San Francisco Supervisor. You will fall in love with being around her because of her positivity, humility, and kindness. If there is a girl you wanna go to a baseball game with, she would be that girl.

I met Sunny when she generously took time off from her busy schedule to model for me at the annual Celebrate You Body runway organized by Kearny Street Workshop in 2015. You can see her cat walk actions in this video, and a lot more in my previous post here and backstage scenes here. I was most impressed with how chill she was at the backstage before she walked down the runway — pretty sure that her confidence and "just-to-have-fun" attitude helped her be herself and not give a dame about what others might think!

Watch Sunny on The Runway

So what does a chief of staff do? In a nutshell, Sunny is a legislative aide at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, crafting policy solutions to the City's affordability crisis, organizing with community members to forward citywide budget priorities, and generally being a part of the beautiful work to the soul of our city.

We need more superwoman like her to inject constant sunshine into our city's well being.

The power of fashion — to bring back loved ones even from beyond, on a very happy or sad day!

Superwoman has tough days too! Sunny told me that on Board days or other important (and intense) days at work, she always wears a piece of her grandmother Amparo Espinoza's tres chic style when she needs a little extra luck or reassurance.

On Board days (every Tuesday), she wears her grandmother's wedding ring for strength and luck every Tuesday. On special days when she needs to be wrapped up in her grandmother's support, she wears a special black wool shawl that is exactly Sunny's height (5'3").

"People are always asking me where I got it from, and I say it's one of the last things that I have of my grandmother that puts her instantly in my presence. She was a very strong woman and I love having a piece of her with me in my everyday style, especially at work when I often need to be reminded that I have a lot of her in me. I'm sure everyone has a talisman that cart around with them or incorporate into their personal style."

Sunny's Latest "Crush It" Moment

Working with an incredible team that I consider family to place Supervisors Jane Kim and Aaron Peskin's bold and timely Inclusionary Affordable Housing Charter Amendment onto the June 7th ballot, which more than doubles the amount of affordable housing that private developers are required to construct in new development projects. The voters pay tax dollars toward affordable housing development, it's time that private developers pay their fair share to help keep working families, teachers, nurses, hotel and restaurant workers and bus drivers in the city that they essentially help hold together and keep running! (Side note: it was actually very fun to work on.) Now we just have to vote YES on C!
