Style Tips Every Petite Woman Should Know About Wedding Guest Attire

Fall is high season for wedding. We don't want you to wait till the last minute to shop. So here are some wedding guest attire tips and outfit ideas for popular wedding venues/themes like vineyard, waterfront/boat ride, chic and modern locations (e.g. hotels, museums, etc.) and even a vintage style ambience.

Be savvy to select a piece that can be styled to all of the different weddings and even the upcoming holiday events (Friendsgiving, company holiday parties, etc.). When you spend money on only one purchase, you can afford a high-quality design instead of spreading your hard-earned cash on poorly made, one-season-and-done pieces.

Wedding Guest Attire - What to Consider?

1. Is it venue appropriate?

Are you going to a grand ballroom, city hall or pool side wedding? Picture yourself in the outfit and ask yourself the length is too long or short? Is it showing too much skin that will offend the bride and groom?

Speaking of the bride, wearing white to a wedding as a guest is a major No No! Also, don’t dress outrageously attention-calling to take the focal point away from the bride. Even if you think the bride is OK with your outfit, when in doubt, you may want to check with her as courtesy. It’s her big day, not yours. You will have your turn :)

2. Is it versatile?

Think about how you can style the outfit with different hairstyle, accessories and shoes for the different events.

For example, if you have both casual and formal weddings to attend, can you pair it with strappy sandals and a denim/moto leather jacket for a laid-back look? And then wear heels and a dressy clutch for a more formal style?

3. Is it Functional?

If you plan to dance, think about if you can dance in it. A tight pencil skirt may not work well on the dance floor. Or if you will be on a boat, will it be so windy? If so, a very short dress/skirt may not work.

4. Is it comfortable?

If it’s not comfortable, you will not want to wear it again. You body remembers it.

If you are going to a wedding on a boat, do you get out of balanced easily? In case you fall down easily, consider a jumpsuit so you don't need to worry about "showing" anything if it does happen.

5. Will you need to change scene?

For example, at a vineyard wedding, you will most liking be walking on the grassy lawn or soils during the ceremony and then step into an indoor banquet.

Consider wearing wedges instead of heels, or even bringing a pair of flats for these outdoor environment. Flats are also good at the end of the night when you no longer want to stand on your heels.

Bring a large tote to carry all of these extra items. It's especially handy when you need to change out from outdoor to indoor, or from a causal ceremony to a formal banquet. For example, a clutch is more appropriate for the formal evening portion. You can hide the clutch in a large tote during the day until the formal portion. Then coat-check the tote at the banquet, carrying just the clutch.
